HSM Contracting has been competitively awarded by the Central Highlands Regional Council to deliver the Orion Area Flood Damage Repairs and Gravel Resheeting project, which will restore and renew key rural road links across the Orion district after flood-related damage. These works are essential to restore safety, accessibility and resilience across the unsealed road network serving rural properties, agricultural operations, transport users and the wider Central Highlands community.
The project combines flood damage repair with full-service gravel resheeting, delivered in accordance with Council specifications, legislative requirements and quality assurance testing protocols.
Key components of the works include:
- Flood damage repair of unsealed rural roads, including formation reinstatement, regravelling, and restoration of drainage function.
- Full-service gravel resheeting — supply, haulage, placement, grading, and compaction of compliant materials, moisture-conditioned and density-tested to specification.
- Shoulder grading, medium formation grading, and heavy formation grading to restore crossfall, drainage, and ride quality.
- Drainage and culvert work, including removal, supply, and installation of culvert components and reinstatement of side and table drains.
- Installation and maintenance of traffic control measures to ensure safe access for road users and site crews on active rural roads.
- Implementation of erosion, sediment, and environmental controls throughout the project lifecycle.
- Quality assurance testing, including moisture, density, and material compliance checks.
Delivered by HSM’s Emerald-based crews using its own fleet of graders, rollers, water carts, loaders, and haulage trucks, the project draws on HSM’s extensive experience in rural road resheeting and flood-damage repair across Central Queensland. Upon completion, the works will deliver safer, more durable, and more resilient rural road surfaces that support everyday travel, emergency access, agricultural operations, and regional supply chains — reducing future maintenance requirements and improving long-term serviceability across the Orion road network.
